Grave Marking Ceremony
October 4, 2014: The Silas McDowell chapter, NCSSAR, sponsored a dual Patriot grave marking ceremony for Daniel Bryson and James Holmes Bryson at Sugarfork Baptist Church & Cemetery in Franklin, NC. Approximately 75 people attended the event with SAR compatriots from Silas McDowell, Mecklenburg and George chapters, as well as members from regional DAR chapters. Members of the local VFW post presented the Colors and played “Taps” during the grave marker unveiling ceremony. 37 descendants of Patriot Daniel Bryson and Patriot James Holmes Bryson, who are two of six brothers that were in the Revolutionary War, 16 SAR members from both NCSSAR and GASSAR chapters, and 12 DAR members from NCSDAR and GASDAR chapters. We had a lot of complements from different folks about having the SAR/DAR folks line up on either side of the Soldiers Cross, the number of flags present, 3 volley Musket fire, Mourn Musket Salute, VFW/American Legion Color Guard, and the Soldiers Cross. This grave marking was co-hosted by the Blue Ridge Mountain GASSAR chapter. The photos are from the ceremony.
